This is the setting to my horror movie, the location where the entire shoot will take place. The house was specifically chosen as a stereotypically normal house, one that the vast demographic can really relate to. Chosing a setting the audince can relate to is key in my view, as the realism portrayed can lead to a lasting horror that lingers with people - a successful horror movie. Locations such as the set of Jaws do not have this sense of lasting fear as these dwell on situations that can be avoided, rather than the terror through the association of fear with everyday life.
The set will be furnished as a normal house and lit in the same way, a high amount of filter lights to create a 'homely' feel. This lulls the viewer into a false sense of security, adding to the climactic effect upon the first signs of horror, i.e the presence and initial attack of the antagonist. In theory, this will complement the high use of handheld camera shots and promote realism throughout the film.
A location such as this can be seen in many horror classics such as and Scream, Paranormal Activity and The Strangers.
